Read full description of the books The Oath of Draupadi (Paanchali Sapatham):

Bharathiyar's take of Panjaali's dreadful cold-blooded vow :D <3

With metaphors in each stanza, it explains everything that took place in Hastinapur's hall of dice. Be it Paanjali's vastraharan or the progression of the game, Bharathi explains each event with utmost intensification. I loved all the four parts.

The most favurite lines in the entire Panjaali sabatham are the following.
Bheema chides Yudhistir for gambling Draupati in the game of dice :

He explains Duriyan's Sabha this way and the last two lines describes the friendship between Karnan - Duryodhan. It shows why he is being called a Mahakavi.

புலைநடை சகுனியும் புறமிருன் தார்;

Yudhistir looses everything abiding the laws of the game. Every respected man in the Sabha are agitated, and Mahakavi explains it this way :

கன லுறத் துடித்தான்;
புகை யுயிர்த் திருந்தார்;

Yudhistir stakes Draupati in the game of dice paying heeds to Sakuni's words anticipating victory after losing himself in the game. Princess born from fire becomes an subject of ridicule. :/

I loved Panjaali Sabatham. First book I've read in 2015, and it did not disappoint me. I shouldn't have expected disappointment, for it was by my darling and daring poet Bharathiyaar. <3

Chinnaswami Subramania Bharathi was an Indian writer, poet, journalist, Indian independence activist and social reformer from Tamil Nadu, India. Popularly known as "Mahakavi Bharathiyar", he is a pioneer of modern Tamil poetry and is considered one among the greatest of Tamil literary figures of all time. His numerous works were fiery songs kindling patriotism and nationalism during Indian Independence movement.

Born in Ettayapuram of the then Tirunelveli district (presently Tuticorin district) in 1882, Subramania Bharati had his early education in Tirunelveli and Benares and worked as a journalist with many newspapers, notable among them being the Swadesamitran and India.
